Guylaine Bolduc: transmitting her passion for sports to teenage girls!

With a Bachelor’s of Secondary Social Sciences, History and Citizenship, Geography and teaching geography for 28 years at Haute-Ville school in Granby, Guylaine Bolduc has been in charge of the FitSpirit program at her school for 12 years. With a passion for the outdoors, road biking, and running, her greatest desire is to pass on her passion for sport and share her knowledge to the girls at her school.

The winning recipe for continuing with this energy

“I draw my energy from the accomplishments of teenage girls.”

Guylaine was very humble when asked about the winning recipe to continue with this energy level after all these years. “When you’re a teacher, you’ve got to find a side project. I don’t do anything in particular, actually, it’s even selfish of me to be responsible for FitSpirit because it allows me to participate in many activities I wouldn’t do otherwise.”

Added to that, she says she gets her energy from witnessing the accomplishments of young girls. She has seen their limits year after year. While teenage girls enter the program with enthusiasm, truly committing comes with its own set of challenges. To see them grow and blossom through FitSpirit, to see the girls of Secondary 5 mentoring the girls of Secondary 2, to see the former participants who are now in cégep come back to school to participate in activities, fills her with immense pride. According to her, her greatest accomplishment, without a doubt, is breaking down boundaries: “After an activity, the girls all come together.”
